PHCCIMA EGM: SALEH LED ADMINISTRATION TAKES PHCCIMA TO A WHOLE NEW HEIGHT IN THE PAST ONE YEAR, COUNCIL ADOPTS THE REVIEWED CONSTITION & WONWU ELECTED S WELFARE SECRETARY

Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce on the 21st of November 2019 held her Extra-ordinary General Meeting with greater milestones and gluts of positives for members witnessed in the last one year of the present administration at the Council Hall. Making his welcome remark, President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Chief Nabil Saleh profoundly expressed appreciation to everyone for their valued contributions and support extended to the present administration since inauguration more than a year ago; he also commended their commitment towards sustainable growth and development of the Chamber. According to him, looking back to the past one year, his administration has enjoyed tremendous support from all and sundry, and this has spurred them to achieve most of the items listed on the ten points blueprint of the current administration. “The active participation and collaborative efforts in all activities of the Chamber have assured us that we are on the right path of achieving higher height for the Chamber and more benefits for our valued members”, he was quoted as saying. While reeling out a summary of some accomplishments and activities of the Chamber in the past one year, he said: “We embarked on the revitalization of all structures of the Chamber including the trade groups, working committees, NACCIMA Youth Entrepreneurs, PHCCIMA Chapter, while the NACCIMA Women Group will follow suit soon. “Hear him: The Secretariat has been relocated to a more conducive and serene environment that guarantees regular networking and advisory services”, we have conducted two membership induction ceremonies and inducted 43 new members into the membership of the Chamber, and 122 old members have revalidated their membership status of the Chamber. Some old members have also indicated interest to return to the Chamber soon. Successful holding of three (3) quarterly general forums for member enlightenment and business development, holding of three (3) business linkages & workshops on current trends of MSMEs entrepreneurial development and have held 12 Exco and Expanded Exco meetings. Chief Saleh noted that PHCCIMA is presently number one e-Chamber in Nigeria as almost all operations are system-based and near paperless. Hear him: “We have produced and unveiled the 6th edition of our Commerce Port Harcourt Magazine and continued the dissemination of business news and information through our regular media, Weekly e-Newsletter, WhatsApp, PHCCIMA APP, etc. Our visibility has also improved because of our good relationship with the Press and Media houses. We have held 2 Council meetings and our corporate relationship with the Federal and State Governments has improved with participation in 7 meetings and events. Interestingly, he told the council that PHCCIMA has attended and participated in all NACCIMA Exco and Council meetings and some events, have hosted in our Secretariat 15 Federal & State MDA’S; recording 61 participants so far at the ONE-STOP-SHOP of the Chamber with 16 correspondences with federal and state governments. “Distinguished valued members, in a bid to enhance our trade mission processes, we have visited 8 embassies and interacted with 4, we have had 3 foreign Ambassadors visiting the Chamber Secretariat and have also received 3 foreign Trade Delegations. In the last one year, he said PHCCIMA has embarked on three foreign Trade Missions and as the Chairman of the Organized Private Sector in Rivers State, we have held three OPS meetings and produced an OPS four years strategy plan. “Currently, we are organizing the 15th Port Harcourt International Trade Fair holding at Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt from 6th to 20th December, 2019 and financial members are invited to participate and exhibit their goods and services at the trade fair at 15% discount for exhibition spaces”, he was quoted as saying. Continuing, the PHCIIMA helmsman noted that the EGM is necessitated by certain developments in the Chamber as it concerns consideration of the reviewed PHCCIMA constitution, implementation of the High Court judgment order on the case between PHCCIMA and Chief Isaac Wonwu. He said the 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Chamber will be held in the 1st Quarter of 2020 where the financial statement of the year 2019 shall be rendered. The PHCCIMA boss expressed a strong belief that with continuous support, commitment and participatory involvement in all activities of the Chamber, we will achieve the Chamber of our dreams. The Director-General of PHCCIMA, Mr. Erasmus Chukunda read through the reviewed bye-laws which provided members of council the opportunity to make adequate amendments and alterations and was later adopted by the house. Part of the implementation of the High Court judgment order on the case between PHCCIMA and Chief Isaac Wonwu witnessed the unanimous election of Chief Isaac Wonwu as elected executive committee member, to serve as Welfare Secretary; he is to serve out his term with the present administration.
